The Rate Plan Quantity Search is the underlying Saved Search of variable data which will be referenced in the Rate Plan Search Map. The Search can be based on any NetSuite record that represents the usage data (i.e. ZAB Usage Data, ZAB Count Data, ZAB Ad Hoc data, or any custom record).
Key Characteristics
- Any Saved Search in NetSuite can be used as a Rate Plan Quantity Search.
- A Rate Plan Quantity Search can be shared across Rate Plan Search Maps, and manipulated based on the filters applied in the Rate Plan Search Map.
Prerequisites
- Determine if the variable data referenced in the Saved Search is Consumption, Count, or Ad Hoc.
- Usage Data
- Based on Consumption during the Charge Period and each period will be rated individually.
- Usage must be reported each period for a Charge to occur.
- Only a single date is required to indicate which Charge Period the Usage is billed in.
- Examples include: number of phone calls, amount of storage MB used, etc.
- Count Based
- Based on the total number of active records including any from prior periods.
- An Effective Date (Start Date) is required and this item will be "active" and billable until the End Date (if one is specified). If no End Date is specified, the Count record is still considered “active” and will be charged each Charge Period.
- Count data is eligible for proration of the Quantity field using the Effective Date and End Date.
- Examples include: number of active users, number of active licenses, etc.
- Ad Hoc
- Based on when usage is incurred, billing may be initiated immediately and is not bound to a service period.
- The Search used cannot have summarized results (or summary criteria). Leverage the Rate Plan Search Map’s Count/Ad Hoc Grouping and Count/Ad Hoc Aggregation for those needs.
- Usage Data
Creating a Quantity Search
- Create a saved search of the record type (i.e. ZAB Usage, Count Data, or Ad Hoc record, or any custom record) that represents the usage data.
- Give the Search a Title > check the box Public > under Results, Usage specific fields will populate for ZAB Usage/Count Data records
- At a minimum, ensure there are columns representing Internal ID, Quantity, Date (for Consumption and Ad Hoc), or Effective Date and End Date (for Count)
- Take note of which column will represent the Quantity used for any pricing calculation (count the columns to identify the column number for Quantity)
Tip: To avoid having to manually count your columns, add custom labels to the Saved Search Column Fields, numbering and describing the field. e.g. 1. ID, 2. Script ID, 3. Date, etc.
To add the Quantity Search to an existing Rate Plan Search Map review the Rate Plan Search Map article.
FAQ
Q: Can I use summary / groupings in my Saved Search?
A: If the Search is used for Usage (Consumption) Data, you can use Summary/Groupings in the Saved Search. The summed/grouped values will be used in the Rate Plan Search Map field mappings.
If the Search is used for Count Data, you should utilize the Count Grouping and Count Aggregation functionality on the Rate Plan Search Map.
