Why we made this change
As accounts grow, the records ZoneBilling uses to keep your billing and revenue recognition in sync — Revenue Details, Revenue Events, and Revenue Transaction Links — can number in the millions. The previous version of our billing-event process searched your entire account every time it ran, which could slow down or time out in large accounts. The new process only looks at the specific subscriptions and transactions that actually changed, so performance no longer degrades as your data grows.

What's different
- Revenue billing events are now calculated per transaction line rather than per revenue detail, which gives a more detailed view of granular revenue data. Charges that previously combined into a single event (for example, an offsetting credit and charge that netted to $0) now appear as separate events, so each can post to the appropriate GL account.
- Processing scales with your account's activity, not your account's total historical size.
- NetSuite's Advanced Revenue Management (ARM) plugin now gets its answers from data ZoneBilling already has on hand, instead of rebuilding that information every time it asks — which is one of the biggest reasons the process is faster.
- Because amounts are now calculated per line rather than per combined group, individual billing event amounts may differ slightly from what was recorded before. Totals at the contract level are unchanged. See Understanding Revenue Rounding Adjustments After a Revenue Migration.
Important: This is a performance and structural change. Your Revenue Orders, Revenue Details, and Revenue Configurations are not changing, and the way revenue is allocated to your contracts is not changing.
How to migrate to line-level billing events
Who can do this: Only a NetSuite Administrator can enable and confirm this migration.
Before you start: This change is one-way. Once enabled, line-level billing events cannot be turned off. Test in a Sandbox account first.
How data flows from billing to revenue
The Revenue Transaction Link is the bridge record: it ties each billed transaction line to the revenue it recognizes, and it's what NetSuite's Advanced Revenue Management plugin queries instead of rebuilding this information itself.
