What is a Charge Item Map?
Use fields on the Charge Item Map subtab to override Items and Descriptions for different Charge Types. A number of fields on the Charge Item Map only apply to certain types of Charges, like variable Usage or Offset Charges.
Key Characteristics
- Values can populate based on NetSuite Item Settings or ZAB Plan Items
- Description fields can be dynamic - handlebars
- Field settings influence what displays under the Charge Table columns: Charge Item and Charge Type
- Can be used with the following Rate Types: Fixed (Recurring) & Usage (Variable), Usage (Variable), Prepaid Item Quantity, Prepaid Subscription (Amount)
Before you begin
- The Offset Charge Item fields are only applicable to Subscription Items that have an Offset Charge Type
- The Item used on a Charge Item Map field must be an Item for Sale or Resale. You will receive an error message if you select an Item with the Subtype ’For Purchase’.
- Charge Item Map fields are also available as defaults under the native NetSuite Item record for the designated Item for each Charge (under the ZAB Settings tab).
- If set at the Item level, the Default Charge Item Map Fields will auto populate under the Subscription Item’s Charge Item Map subtab (only upon creation of a new Subscription Item). Charge Item Map Defaults can be changed at any time under the Subscription Item > Charge Item Map subtab
Reasons for overriding the parent Item set on the Subscription Item
- Revenue recognition: a Customer might have different rules associated with certain Items. For example with a Fixed (Recurring) & Variable (Usage) Rate Type, the fixed versus variable Items (or Items for Included Units) may have different Income Accounts, Revenue Recognition Rules, or other accounting settings.
- Reporting: can be helpful to have separate Charge Items for grouping purposes
- Minimum/Maximum Charge: when these fields are used, it may be helpful to segregate usage-based Charges from those that represent the ‘gap to Minimum’ or ‘gap to Maximum'
Charge Item Map Fields
These fields are applicable to multiple usage-based Rate Types. Most work in conjunction with fields set on the Subscription Item.
For example, the Overage/Usage Charge Item field can be used when values have been entered into the Subscription Item field Overage/Usage Rate (depending on the Rate Type selected).
