ZAB Plans and Plan Items allow you to build a framework for what the overall Subscription and Subscription Items should look like, including the population of key values that may be shared across multiple Subscriptions leveraging the same ZAB Plan.
To create a new ZAB Plan:
1. Go to Setup > Zone Advanced Billing Setup > Plans > New.
2. Name the ZAB Plan. The ZAB Plan is simply the header record that will hold the ZAB Plan Items and will be assigned to a ZAB Subscription.
3. Next, create Plan Items for the ZAB Plan.
4. Enter values in the mandatory fields such as Item, Name, Rate Type, and Proration Type.
a. You will receive an error message if you select an Item with the Subtype ’For Purchase’.
5. Tell the system how you would like the dates to be structured for the particular Plan Item:
a. Inherit Start/End Dates from Subscription ensures that any time a Subscription Item is created with this ZAB Plan Item, the Subscription Item Start and End Dates align to the Subscription Start and End Dates.
b. Default Period will align the Start Date of the Subscription Item with the Start Date of the Subscription and the End Date will be calculated based on the Default Period that is selected.
c. Start Date Offset will offset the Subscription Item Start Date from the Subscription Start Date.
6. Set other fields on the ZAB Plan Item that should map to the Subscription Item.
a, Note that not all fields required on the Subscription Item are required on the Plan Item, so it is important to confirm any fields that should be populated (either because they are mandatory or are mandatory on the form) are populated to prevent Subscription Items being created with incomplete data. that will be used for your ZAB Plan Item
Use case example: A ZAB Plan has three ZAB Plan Items. Each Plan Item has a one-year term that represents years 1, 2, and 3 of the client’s Contract. For example:
- The “Year 1” Plan Item has a Default Period of 1 Year with no Offset
- The “Year 2” Plan Item has a Default Period of 1 Year with a 1 Year Offset
- The “Year 3” Plan Item has a Default Period of 1 Year with a 2 Year Offset
Note: In some cases, you will want to leave certain fields blank and introduce an operational process whereby those fields are being updated after the Subscription Items are created. A common example is when a company sells the same “Package” to multiple customers, but charges those customers different rates.
